2011 Zerofootprint Re-Skinning Awards Winners

The winners of the 2011 Zerofootprint Re-Skinning Awards were announced at the U.S. Green Building Council's Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, showcasing excellence in holistic retrofitting projects from around the world.
Zerofootprint Founder and CEO Ron Dembo made the announcement during his breakout session on energy benchmarking and the importance of improving our older, existing stock of urban buildings to fight climate change.
Winners were chosen by a jury of experts in architecture, design, and engineering: Canadian architect John Patkau; Edward Mazria, Architecture 2030 Challenge founder; Thomas Auer, energy efficient building design expert; Michael Ra, Front Inc. founding partner; Michelle Addington, Yale Architecture professor; and Dana Cuff, UCLA Architecture professor and Founding Director of sustainable urban design think tank CityLAB.

The Design Museum and PUMA, through its PUMA.Safe programme, announced the second Annual PUMA.Safe Sustainable Design Lecture at the Design Museum London.
On October 18, 2011 world-renowned Chilean Architect Alejandro Aravena will give the address.
Director of Elemental S.A., and based in Chile, the architect and designer, Alejandro Aravena will discuss his approach to sustainability informed design, demonstrated in work such as the Monterrey Housing Project in Mexico, which gained Elemental S.A. a Design Museum Designs of the Year nomination in 2010 for its innovative solution to low-cost, self build social housing.
Facebook to Launch New Energy Efficiency App in 2012

Facebook just announced that it will partner with Opower and the National Resources Defense Council to launch a new energy efficiency Facebook app in 2012. Users of the app will be able to log into a nationwide network to share their energy usage with other homes around the country. The app will enable users to compare their energy consumption, share tips to decrease power use, and participate in online contests that encourage energy efficiency.

´Cóm-oda´ is a clever piece of multi-tasking furniture that transforms from an old-fashioned writing desk into a set of six director’s chairs in an instant. Designed by Spanish studio Mr. Simon, the desk is formed from six folding seats made from wood and cotton, which can be detached as needed to provide additional seating for impromptu parties.
