Scarcity Is Beautiful by Paulo Goldstein
by: design milk, 2014-02-28 20:00:50 UTC

Paulo Goldstein, creator of Repair Is Beautiful, which we also featured on Design Milk, is back at it again. This time, he explores the idea “What if instead of adding one, redistribute what is there already?” in his newest commissioned work, Scarcity is Beautiful.

Inspired by recent research on scarcity, Head of College Professor Jeremy Till commissioned Goldstein to save an empty space in the new Central Saint Martins building at Kings Cross. They went throughout London, collecting discarded items and redesigning them as a response to the notions of Scarcity.

The finished product is now the Central Saint Martins’ new Front Parlour, which highlights and celebrates repaired objects given new life, and evoking thought on the idea of scarcity. It asks viewers to explore and think about the potential of what is left behind by our consumerist society.
