Chemical reaction eats up CO2 to produce energy ... and other useful stuff
by: Gizmag Emerging Technology Magazine, 2012-05-22 05:58:34 UTC
While there are plenty of ways to make
carbon-based products from CO2, these methods usually require a lot of energy because the CO
2 molecules are so stable. If the energy comes from the burning of fossil fuels, then the net result will be more CO
2 entering the atmosphere. Now a material scientist at Michigan Technological University has discovered a chemical reaction that not only soaks up CO
2, but also produces useful chemicals along with significant amounts of energy...

by: Inhabitat , 2012-05-23 16:40:47 UTC
We recently spotted these nifty wool bowls by MIO at ICFF during New York Design Week. Even though they’re not new to the scene, we were so enamored by their cute design, we couldn’t help but feature them here on Inhabitat. The Philadelphia-based studio, run by brothers Jaime and Isaac Salm, puts a huge emphasis on not only sustainable materials, but supporting local businesses as well. The duo recruited one of the last remaining hat makers in the US to craft these 100% wool bowls, whose shapes, colors and materials are influenced by traditional millinery methods.
