Intematix Separates Phosphors From LEDs; Simplifies Manufacturing, Increases Flexibility

Some colours of LEDs are easier to make and are brighter than others; blue is currently the brightest, so manufacturers usually coat a blue LED with a phosphor, which gets excited and emits light of a preferred colour and broader spectrum. But it is complicated (the LED is really hot) and time-consuming to adjust to demand for different fixtures, fitting and colours.
Enter Intematix, which launched
Chromalit today. They separate the LED from the phosphors, so that they are not on the chip but in front of it, much like the gel in front of a theatrical light...

Accordion Food
by: Yanko Design, 2011-01-19 08:35:15 UTC
Accordion Package is a space-saving container for instant noodes that can be compressed like an accordion. This makes it easier to store and carry and cuts down on the cost of transportation. The acordian-like surface decreases the contact points with your hands to prevent burning. After the noodles are eaten, it can be compressed to save space in the trash too. Clever.

Nothing But Scratch
by: Yanko Design, 2011-01-20 08:03:07 UTC
Take a peek at this record player. It’s the kind that plays vinyl records, the 12″ kind, and it does it well with only the bare minimum. Fantastical! It’s called “Turnstyle” and it’s made up of the motor, the needle, the speakers, and the controls. What more do you need? It’s a skeleton of its former self, and not former as in it was stripped, former as in there’s no reason to ever go back to more!
This project is designed by RD Silver, a designer who has the guts to take away everything but the guts. The requirements for function set upon this project were the following: spin record, on/off, volume, speaker, and needle. As far as design requirements: no corners, no hard edges, no 90 degree angles. Simple? Simple. Send me 10.

Shave with a Flick of a Finger
by: Yanko Design, 2011-01-20 09:20:52 UTC
Ring-shaver is a small, tube-shaped shaver that slips over the finger. In comparison to traditional shaving, Ring-shaver allows a more flexible shaving action. A toggle switch activates the flywheel to provide the necessary driving force. Ring-shaver does not require charging. It saves energy and is easy to carry. Great for sparse facial hair.
Ring-shaver is a 2010 Red Dot Concept Award winning entry.
