LED adds to freedom of design in fixtures

Sustainability Aspects: The EU will in steps phase out all incandescent light bulbs over 7watt by september 1st, 2012. More light for less electricity, till 50% less then candescent bulbs. But the little LED's also give a new freedom to design. It is now possible to do much more

Raimond

Different designers made use of the larger freedom in design of fixtures which LED’s offer. Raimond Puts designed (realization OX-ID) intricate spheres that transport the electrical current. The LED terminals transform the currents in a kind of starry atmosphere. The fixtures come in different sizes till up to 2 meter in diameter!

Zaha Hadid designed for Artemide a LED fixture which looks organic and lights focussed as well as diffused. When not switched on it looks like a sculpture, beautiful in its own right. Artemide also has the Nordlight line which focuses on LED and offers Margherita which, making use of the fact that LED’s can change in color of light, is used in a ever changing ceiling sculpture at the Milan Boscolo Exedra hotel

Swedish architect firm CKR designed Ruhe, a LED desklamp where they made use of the fact that LED’s don’t get hot. The lamp is made of recycled wood pulp. Ruhe is produced by Wästberg.
